SEBRING — Progress Energy restored power to 2,000 customers in Sebring two hours after a transformer malfunctioned Sunday afternoon.
The power outage affected Washington Heights and parts of downtown Sebring, Progress Energy spokesman Buddy Eller said.
According to Sebring Fire Department officials, the transformer's electric wires sparked up for reasons that were undetermined by press time. The malfunction, reported at 12:43 p.m. caused a small fire on the ground nearby, but it was out before firefighters responded.
