Christ's Love

Published: May 10, 2008

I refer to the article by Leonard Pitts, "We've Lost Sight of Christ's Love," printed in the Tampa Tribune on May 1.

After reading the article carefully, I conclude that Mr. Pitts agrees with James Lawson, that modern Christianity is wrong in opposing a certain "alternate lifestyle" so vehemently.

I also am displeased with much of "modern Christianity." I prefer what I would call "old fashioned Christianity." At the same time, I oppose the premise that Christians are the only ones who dare not protest what they are firmly convinced is sin!

I am appalled at the inference that Christ's love is so strong that it is impossible for Him to oppose sin in all its forms. It is true that Jesus said, "God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." (John 3:17.) However, He went on to say that it is the man's sin that condemns him, not God.

Christ accepts the repentant sinner, but he said a number of times, "Go and sin no more!" To be specific about the "alternate lifestyle," the Bible forbids homosexuality in no uncertain terms. Read Leviticus 20:13. It is called an abomination and it is deemed worthy of death, in the Mosaic law.

Also, in the New Testament, read Romans 1"26 and 27. Paul left no doubt to what he was referring. Real Christians are supposed to believe the Bible. How can they not oppose things that are so definitely deemed inappropriate?
