Contemporary Christian musician Michael W. Smith will take center stage on Nov. 6 during Florida Hospital Heartland Division's 14th annual Gala Festivities at South Florida Community College.
During an 18-year career, Smith has recorded 15 albums, which earned him two Grammy awards and 27 Dove awards.

Smith was a member of former Gala performer Amy Grant's band, prior to branching out on his own.
Smith's performance at the SFCC Auditorium is one portion of the hospital's fundraiser. A golf tournament, silent auction, black tie dinner, a children's art contest and a 5K walk/run are all Gala Week highlights.

Last year's benefit gala earned $300,000 and organizers expect more public participation and funds raised.

The cardiac catheter lab at the Sebring campus will benefit, as well as the operating room at Lake Placid and the emergency room at Wauchula.

Tickets go on sale for Smith's Nov. 6 performance on June 30. Call the foundation at 402-5525 for tickets. Credit cards will be accepted.

The 2008 Gala golf tournament will be held at Sun and Lake Golf of Sebring on Nov. 7. Last year's tournament sold out and organizers are keeping secret the give-aways for the upcoming tournament.

An ongoing raffle winner will be drawn and the winner will choose between a new Skidoo or golf cart.

As usual, the SFCC gymnasium will be the site of an annual black tie dinner on Nov. 6.

The hospital's Cherie Starr hopes to grow from last year's 5K walk/run.

Sept. 28 is reserved for kids aged 5-11 to design the gala logo for 5K T-shirts.

A silent auction will feature about 30 to 40 prime items, including trips and sports memorabilia.

For information, call the foundation at 402-5525.
