Circle Park Beautification Proceeds

SEBRING — The Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency is proceeding with plans to beautify Circle Park.

On Monday, commissioners met with Roger Statzer of Keith and Schnars engineering of Lakeland, and Marshall Whidden of Whidden Design Studio in Lake Wales.

Without a vote, the commissioners agreed to see more advanced plans. Whidden would plant cathedral oaks, cabbage palms, shrubbery, metal picnic tables and benches, and place spotlights among the trees.

Where trees are planted in sidewalks, steel grates would cover the holes in the brick pavers, textured concrete or asphalt, Whidden suggested. Only two or three parking spaces would be lost.
"The plants would create a gateway feel," said Whidden.

"I like it," said Commissioner Kelly Griffin.

Other Business
The commissioners also approved a $5,000 grant to sponsor the July 4 fireworks by the Young Professionals, an $800 grant to advertise the 9th annual Juneteenth Festival in Washington Heights, and a $3,000 facade grant for Linda Rodriguez-Torrent to replace the windows at 605 S. Pine St.

Chairman Gene Brenner and Commissioner Jim Rimer applied for and got a $3,745 grant to replace a 2,500 square-foot roof on the Roanoke Building, 211 Circle Park Dr., which they own. Brenner was absent from the meeting; Rimer did not vote.
