SEBRING — The second suspect in the stabbing death of a Lake Placid man seven years ago was brought to the Highlands County Jail on Wednesday to join his son, also charged with second-degree murder.
Tirso Marin-Median, now 48, of Madison, was charged with homicide willful kill second-degree murder - not premeditated.
On Feb. 19, 2001 sheriff's investigators were called to 303 Highlands Blvd., in Lake Placid, on a report of a stabbing.
The victim, Sergio Morales, was found inside the home with multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by Highlands County Emergency Medical personnel.
Witnesses reported that Morales had been arguing with his two roommates Marin-Median and his son Juan Perez-Marin, now 26, and told detectives that the men had stabbed the victim with a knife.
Both reportedly drove from the scene before law enforcement got there. Detectives learned the men were migrant workers with no known permanent address. Warrants were issued for their arrests.
According to the news release, following Marin-Median's arrest detectives and deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office worked with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
Their efforts then led to the arrest of Juan Perez-Marin, who arrived in Highlands County on Tuesday.
