SEBRING — A Pompano Beach man remained in Highlands County Jail without bond on a charge of grand theft in connection with the theft of iPods from the Sebring Wal-Mart store on April 6.
Arthur Davis, 40, also known as James Johnson, John Davis, Richard Rod, Richard Macon, Richard Davis, Arthur Davis Jr., James Davis, Davis Arthur and June Davis, was booked into jail on a single count of grand theft $5,000 or more but less than $10,000.
According to the arrest report, Davis and three unnamed female suspects entered the store just after midnight on April 6. According to video surveillance, they four went to the electronics department.
The male suspect, later identified as Davis, fiddled with the iPod display case, and then opened it. The suspect then took some iPods and put them in a bag in a shopping cart, the report stated. The females reportedly acted as lookouts.
After he walked away, the females took turns taking iPods from the open display and walked off. Cameras showed the four exited the store and then entered a Ford truck.
The iPods were valued at $8,766.05, the report stated. A bulletin was released to state agencies, showing the suspects.
A bulletin from an unidentified agency showed three suspects connected with another Wal-Mart theft, and the suspects appeared to be the same people. They may have reportedly hit other Wal-Mart stores over the past year, the report stated.
Davis showed up on police radar screens when he and two female suspects were detained and barred from another Wal-Mart store, accused of attempting to unlock an iPod display case May 16.
Davis is being held in Highlands County for the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
