Streaks Live Out Major League Dreams

LAKE BUENA VISTA - The Sebring All-Stars got to live out some of their big league dreams on Tuesday during the final day of pool play at the AAU 14-and-under Division 2 National Tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Streaks took their game to the Stadium field of the complex, the same grounds where the Atlanta Braves play spring training games each March.

But the Major League magic couldn't quite pull Sebring through, as a tough Rhode Island team cruised to an 11-5 victory over the Streaks.

"We played an excellent team," said Sebring assistant coach Ray Griffin. "We're in the toughest pool and we couldn't get crucial hits together when we needed them."

The Streaks finished 1-2 in pool play, good enough to earn them a bye in the opening round of tournament play, which started Wednesday afternoon. Results were not available as of press time. See Friday's Highlands Today for complete coverage.

Sebring is now in the consolation "Classic" bracket, and Griffin said the team was feeling confident heading into the double-elimination tourney.

"We're starting all over again," he said. "We're 0-0 like everyone else and there's some teams in the bracket that we're familiar with."

Griffin added the experience has been "incredible" for the team, who is now looking for two wins in tournament play to advance to another game in the Stadium.

"It's been a real treat," he said. "They announced their names and had their numbers up on the scoreboard - we were all in a little bit of awe to begin with."
