A nice gesture turned into a nightmare for the Internal Revenue Service this past week in Sebring.
The IRS wanted to help people who hadn't received the federal stimulus check.
However, the agency only sent two representatives and was overwhelmed by the response. Many people were turned away without even speaking to anyone.
Some showed up two hours before the scheduled time the IRS reps were going to begin meeting with people. There were more than a few disappointed folks, and we can't blame them.
An IRS spokesman apologized for the situation.
That's fine. But what would be much better is to set a date to come back to Sebring and bring reinforcements.
It's the least the IRS could do for taxpayers.
