Big Turnout Expected For Firemen's Tourney

SEBRING - One of the Heartland's largest and most popular golf tournaments of the summer is right around the corner.
The ninth annual Sebring Firemen Memorial Golf Classic presented by AXA Advisors, LLC and Home Depot, is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.
The popular event has attracted such a large number of players that both the Turtle Run and Deer Run courses will be used for the 18-hole, four-person scramble tournament.
A mixer is being held on Friday, Aug. 1. at 6:30 p.m. at the Sun 'N Lake Community Center with a silent auction featuring autographed items by University of Florida players quarterback Tim Tebow and wide receiver Percy Harvin, Gator football coach Urban Meyer, FSU football coach Bobby Bowden, golfing legends Arnold Palmer and Gary Player, as well as Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
More than 180 players have signed up to play in the tournament, which is a fundraiser for athletics at Sebring and Hill-Gustat Middle School's and Sebring High School, as well as numerous youth sports organizations in the area.
"We all know the economy is not the best right now," said Tommy Lovett Sr., of AXA Advisors. "We're very thankful to our sponsors and the golfers in the community for continuing to support this tournament.
"Sebring Firemen is all about giving back to the community and last year's tournament raised more than $27,000, which went to the various athletic programs that we support."
Sebring Firemen Inc. was formed in 1927 and has continued to support youth athletics in Sebring through the years.
"The Sebring Firemen have always been about giving back to the community," said Firemen member David Travers. "This tournament is one of our largest fundraisers, and we are hoping to get more golfers to sign up."

"This is one of the most popular tournaments of the year," said Firemen member John Shoop. "It takes a lot of work and effort to put this tournament on, and we appreciate all the support we receive from the community."
