FORT LAUDERDALE - Megan Wolfe and Sean Spiegel are winding down their summer swimming season in grand fashion.

Wolfe placed 16th in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 27.59 at the SPEEDO Champions Series Southern Zone Sectional Championship at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex last weekend.

With that time, Wolfe qualified for the Short Course Junior National Championship being held this December in Austin, Tex.

"Megan has been working hard all summer to put herself in the position to qualify for the junior nationals," said Highlands Hurricanes head coach Marvin Wolfe.

Wolfe also finished with a time of 1:13.22 in the 100-meter backstroke and 1:02.14 in the 100-meter freestyle.

Spiegel, who recently participated in the US Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., finished fifth with a time of 23.75 in the 50-meter freestyle event and earned the right to compete in the Short Course National Championship in Atlanta, Ga. this December.

"Sean has consistently maintained his times and has been swimming really well lately," Wolfe said. "We're going to really work on his starts and get him in the best possible shape for nationals."

Spiegel also swam the 100-meter freestyle event in the time of 56.51.

At the Olympic Trials, Spiegel placed 101st in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.71 and had the opportunity to meet some of his idols in the swim community.

"Sean had always looked up to Gary Hall Jr., and for him to finally meet him was a dream come true," Wolfe said. "I was also star struck when I had the chance to meet Mark Spitz, who was one of my idols growing up.

"It was great just being around the whole environment and soaking up a wealth of knowledge in the process."

The SPEEDO Champions Series Southern Zone Sectional Championship hosted over 70 teams and 600 swimmers for the three-day event.

Quinlan Wolfe posted times of 25.71 in the 50-meter and 57.35 in the 100-meter freestyle events, while 17-year old Bryan Kirsch swam a 1:20.63 in the 100-meter breaststroke at the event.
