LAKE PLACID - Late Thursday or early Friday morning someone drove a pickup truck onto the yards of four Lake Placid homes in the neighborhood surrounding the 1000 block of Jonquil Street.
At first it was thought that the damage was caused by someone driving a four-wheeler type all-terrain vehicle, but by the afternoon Lt. Kenny Johnson said Friday it appears the damage was done by a small pickup truck.
The unknown suspect or suspects damaged lawns at up to four houses, Johnson said. It was no accident, he added.
"It's (limited to) grass damage, so it's hard to place a monetary value on it," Johnson said. "Nine out of 10 times it's people living in the neighborhood. It's more aggravating than anything."
Bruce and Joan Herrold live on Wintergreen Street.
"They made big ruts," Joan Herrold said. "It's sunken because the ground's wet."
Bruce Herrold was out riding his bicycle Friday morning when he saw a deputy taking photographs of the damage.
Wintergreen Street borders with Brooklands Street, where an empty house that is for sale had damage done to its lawn.
"It's a little sod and that will take care of it," he said. "It's nothing major. We didn't hear anything and it's less than 50 yards away. That's the funny part."
It the vandals are caught they would probably be charged with criminal mischief, causing damage to property, Johnson said.
