SEBRING - The Highlands Red Cross will have a new volunteer information meeting at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 8 at the local office at 106 Medical Center Ave., Sebring.
Highlands County has nearly 100,000 people served by one paid Red Cross employee and a lot of volunteers.
"While we are always looking for a donation of monetary assistance, we are looking for donations of time and talent," said Glenn Fowler, Red Cross volunteer and service delivery assistant for the Highlands County area, in a press release.
The Highlands Red Cross has responded to double the previous year's local disaster calls. In the last 12 months, 37 Highlands County families needed local Red Cross volunteers when disaster struck their homes. Prior to that, the number was 15.
The Highlands Red Cross seeks to increase the quality of its service and effectiveness in the community. To do all of this, it needs the help of volunteers.
