Sheriff's Investigators were looking Friday for anyone with information to come forward on an armed robbery that took place late Tuesday at a Taylor's BP gas station at the corner of State Road 17 and Arbuckle Creek Road.
The gas station was formerly known as Carter's Corner, at 3390 S.R. 17 N., Sebring.
Sheriff's Lt. Tim Lethbridge said Friday morning that they were looking for a single male suspect, 6-feet tall, thin build who wore a long-sleeve black hooded sweatshirt pulled down over his head, the sleeves pulled over his hands, black pants, black shoes and a bandana covering his face.
They determined it was a man by his voice, but could not determine his race, Lethbridge said, with any certainty.
The man entered the store armed with a handgun, Lethbridge said. He appeared to be alone as there was only one who came into the store.
Two clerks were working at the time. No one was injured, he said.
"I can't disclose if there were any other witnesses," Lethbridge said.
The robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Sheriff's deputy Justin Clemmons and his K-9 partner Naiche tracked the hold-up man to a point on Arbuckle Creek Road, "When it appeared he entered a vehicle there," Lethbridge said.
Anyone who may have seen anything regarding this crime is asked to contact the Highlands County Sheriff's Office to speak with Det. Dewayne Proctor at (863) 402-7200 or call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477). Your call can be kept confidential.
