SEBRING - The public is invited to a candidate forum set for 6 p.m. Monday, July 14 at the Agri-Civic Center.

Contested Highlands County Commission races will be part of the forum, followed by sheriff's office candidates. Highlands Today is sponsoring the forum and it will be moderated by Richard Hensley, editor of the paper.

Most candidates for county commission and all candidates for the sheriff's office have confirmed their places at the two- to three- hour forum. Questions are being sought by the public and will be asked by the moderator.

"We had tremendous turnout for the sheriff's forum four years ago," Hensley said. "We're hoping for the same interest level in these important races. It's a good chance to see the candidates in public, and watch them think on their feet as questions are asked."

No candidates will receive the questions beforehand and follow-up questions may be asked depending on how candidates answer the questions, according to Hensley.

Although some of the candidates do not face primary opponents, but will run in the general election in November, were invited to participate.

Those who have confirmed to be there are:

For Andy Jackson's District 3 county commission seat – Andy Jackson, Jeff Carlson and Jeri Canale. Candidate Bruce Borkosky has been invited but has not confirmed.

For Sheriff Susan Benton's seat – Benton, Michael Rowan and Ronald Grimming.

For Guy Maxcy's District 5 county commission seatMaxcy has confirmed. Candidate Zane Thomas has been invited but has not yet confirmed his appearance.
