In reference to the argument about evolution vs. intelligent design, I would say that evolution does seem to have some merit, but intelligent design holds more "proof" for me. No one has ever been able to prove to me that we are here simply at random, that the lungs that breathe the oxygen that feeds my blood that pumps through my heart then traveling to my brain that tell my hand to write this letter is simply random! Or that the sperm that fertilized the egg that divided the cells that became the embryo that turned into my beautiful daughter was random. That this life that I live has no real significance, and that when I die that's it, nothing more!
Nor has anyone been able to prove to me that this inner voice I have that tells me right from wrong, truth from lies, is nothing but my imagination. Some may call it intuition or conscience, spirit, guardian angel, but no matter the name you give it, it is there in all of us. How can that be explained my randomness?
How does one explain love, or sorrow or the other emotions we feel? I cannot look at this world around me, the various life forms I see, without seeing the intelligent design! The beauty of this earth, the functions of all the things on it were designed by such a magnificent intelligence that I can barely contain my extreme awe of it all. I have all the proof I need simply by looking around.
As to whether or not we should teach both theories in schools, why not? What logical reason is there to omit intelligent design, but teach evolution? What is there to be afraid of by teaching both? Let the students use their own free will to decide for themselves.
