The Highlands County Sheriff's Office issued a press release Thursday afternoon saying that Donald Alfonso Henry, 37, turned himself into authorities with the Orlando Police Department on murder charges.
A warrant was issued for Henry earlier this month in connection to the murder of Hugh Andrew Marks. Marks murder occurred on Jan. 7, near the intersection of Garrett Road and Alabama Avenue, in Avon Park.
The press release says that sheriff's office received phone calls from citizens who reported having heard gunshots in the area when Marks was shot. When deputies arrived to the seen they found Marks lying on the ground near the intersection. Emergency Medical Service workers later determined that Marks was deceased.
The press release goes on to say that an investigation led by Detective Jamie Davidson uncovered probable cause to identify Henry as Marks' shooter. A warrant was then issued for Henry's arrest.
Authorities developed leads which revealed that Henry allegedly had assistance in leaving Highlands County, traveling to Orlando.
On Jan. 16, Vackara Darnell Massaline, 31, was arrested on a charge of accessory after the fact in the murder of Marks. Investigators believe that Massaline provided assistance to Henry following Marks murder.
