Seminole Slams Past SFCC

Published: January 30, 2008

AVON PARK — The South Florida Community College baseball team had a lead as late as the sixth inning, but a Seminole grand slam and missed opportunities at the plate were enough for Seminole Community College to pull off a 7-2 victory over SFCC at Panther Field.

The Panthers (0-3) pitched well most of the game, according to coach Rick Hitt, but timely hits were tough to find: SFCC left six baserunners stranded in the final three innings and nine runners on the night.

"We had our shot, we just couldn't get any key hits," Hitt said. "We're looking to develop some consistency and get some guys healthy. We have some young guys making mistakes, but they're adjusting to college ball."

The Panthers have four games over the next four days to forget about their winless start. They host Central Florida Community College — a regional runner-up last season — tonight at 5 p.m. They then hit the road for a Thursday meeting with Polk Community College in Winter Haven (5 p.m.) and a Friday doubleheader with University of Tampa (1 p.m.).

"We've played two teams in the top 10 so far, and we another [today]," Hitt said. "We'll keep working and keep battling."
