SEBRING — One teen-age suspect was placed under arrest Tuesday afternoon after a car chase led to a crashed stolen vehicle, a K-9 foot pursuit and an ongoing investigation.

The 15-year-old Sebring teenager was arrested and charged with grand theft auto, fleeing attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, obstructing a law enforcement officer without violence, operating a motor vehicle with no valid driver's license and violation of juvenile probation.

He had prior arrests in October and November of 2007 on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and crimes against a person – making a threat against a public servant, respectively.

The teen was booked in and released into the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

At least two other teen-age suspects were being questioned in connection with this and other cases, but had not been arrested at press time.

Highlands County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Smith initiated the chase at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Sheriff's Lt. Kenny Johnson said Tuesday morning.

The suspects crashed a stolen Mercury Sable, which had been left unlocked overnight with the keys inside. Two reportedly ran from the crash scene and a K-9 foot pursuit followed.

The 15 year old was reportedly located at his home.
One of the suspects was captured by Smith at the car. The second suspect was caught by Deputy Wayne Gunn and his K-9 partner Sarge, Johnson said.

Sheriff's Lt. Tim Lethbridge said the suspects were being interviewed and were being questioned about a number of different crimes.

Those alleged crimes may have been committed in Sebring Hills, Sebring Ridge and Sun 'n Lake of Sebring, Johnson said, adding the suspects may have been out "car fishing" or looking for unlocked cars to remove loose possessions.

A second red Mitsubishi GT was also stolen from Rail Avenue, Johnson said, and was left abandoned in the woods on Quail Avenue past where it becomes a dirt road on the back side of Sebring Hills where it was recovered.

A Sheriff's search plane located Tuesday morning a white stolen pickup truck also abandoned in the woods on the back side of Sebring Hills.

A stolen golf cart, mentioned in an earlier report, was still missing.
