PORT CHARLOTTE — Despite having several girls post personal best efforts, the Heartland did not have any weightlifters qualify in the top three at Thursday's sectional meet.
The one-day, 20-team event featured some of the top programs in state with only the top three girls from each weight class advancing on to the state meet.
Lake Placid freshman Jerica Worley competed in the 110-pound weight class and finished eighth with 130 pounds combined between the clean-and-jerk and the bench press events.
Green Dragon senior Samantha Worley finished ninth in the 139-pound division with a total of 190 pounds, while sophomore Taquasha Hawthorne finished seventh in the 154-pound weight class with a personal best of 255.
LP freshman Lexi Harris came in eighth in the 169-pound division with a personal best of 175 and senior Sarah Norris had a personal best of 195 to finish sixth in the unlimited category.
"The girls have had a great attitude and a solid work ethic the entire season," said first-year Green Dragon coach Donald Ridgeway. "We have a young team and to have some of the girls have personal best lifts at the sectional meet is awesome.
"The competition was really tough, but I'm proud of the girls and look forward to next year."
Avon Park's Aja Cromedy came in fourth in the 183-pound weight class, while Red Devil Shonkeira Laster finished fourth in the 199-pound category.
Avon Park freshman Tyikeria Wiley finished fourth in the unlimited class, while Zakia Hart came in fifth in the 129-pound division and Andejoua Nixon finished fourth in the 169-pound category.
Sebring senior Samary Camuy came in fourth in the 101-pound division with a total of 165, while Blue Streak senior Jenny Waldon finished fourth in the 110-pound class with 205.
Senior Ashley Waldon came in seventh in the 119-pound division with a 215 and sophomore Carly Freeland claimed seventh in the 129-pound category with a personal best of 225.
Sebring senior Amy Hart finished eighth in the 139-pound division with a 210 and junior Michelle Bash came in eighth in the 154-pound class with a 230.
"I'm extremely pleased with the girls effort," said Blue Streak coach Joe Sinness. "Our sectional has to be one of the toughest in the state and the girls gave everything they had and I couldn't be prouder of them."
All three local teams will close out their season on Thursday at the Travis Todd Invitational in Avon Park.
