Clown Humor Is Not Funny

Published: January 24, 2008

My name is Albin Pelski. I am the president of Toby the Clown Foundation located in Lake Placid. Keith "Toby" Stokes started Toby's Clown Alley and Toby the Clown Foundation many years ago. Since then we have graduated over 700 clowns from our clown school.

We are proud of the many things that we do in Highlands County. We have certainly earned the love and respect of everyone. Our clowns are seen regularly visiting shops, schools, libraries, churches, fairs, fundraisers and parades. Highlands Today has been a huge supporter and recently reporter Bill Rettew Jr. and photographer Kathy Waters did a wonderful article on the foundation.

So imagine my surprise when I opened the Highlands Today, dated Jan. 22, to Page 2A and an article by a humorist called Scott Hollifield. The article was called "I'm not Clowning Around-Kids Hate Them." It is an article probably off the Internet by someone who obviously hates clowns with a hatred that I cannot imagine. To think that Scott Hollifield, a humorist, would consider this article funny is beyond belief.

Furthermore, I can only surmise that the person responsible for putting this article in the paper is also one who hates clowns or is ignorant of the fine work that Toby's Clowns have done and continue to do.
