LAKE PLACID — Police were looking for anyone Monday with information that may help capture two armed men who held up the Wendy's restaurant on Saturday night.

It was about 9:15 p.m. Saturday when the two men wearing sweat shirts and hoods pulled over their heads popped into the restaurant, each carrying a handgun.

Both suspects were described to police as black, about 6-feet 2-inches tall with a large to medium build. Witnesses estimated that they were from 30 to 40 years old.

"It all happened pretty fast," said Police Chief Phil Williams.

Fortunately, the victims cooperated.

"These people were real lucky," Williams said. "I've seen these things turn out a lot worse."
The suspect's demands indicated the pair may be familiar with Wendy's operations.

Following the robbery, the two suspects left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police will not say how much was taken because the case remained under investigation.

"We're comparing notes with other agencies, other Wendy's," he said. "That's routine to review the intelligence base."

Williams said Monday he could not recollect an armed robbery of a business since he's been the town's police chief, which is close to seven years. There have been lots of armed robberies of individuals, he said.

The Lake Placid Police Department requested anyone who saw anything suspicious or who may have other knowledge of this crime to call Det. Cpl. James Fansler at 863-699-3757.

As of the Monday at press time Wendy's security managers were not able to provide police with copies of any store videos, according to a Lake Placid Police Department news release.
