SEBRING — A Sebring man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail, charged in connection with allegedly slashing his roommate with a sword and a knife and not letting him leave.
Ian Preston Dressel, 28, of 2808 DeSoto Road, was charged with aggravated battery by a person using a deadly weapon and kidnapping to commit or to facilitate the commission of a felony.
At 8:16 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 13, sheriff's deputy Robinn Singles reported he met with the mother of the victim, who told him her son, 33, was slashed with a knife and named Dressel as the suspect.
She explained the victim arrived at her home with blood all over his face and he told her Dressel had beaten him at their DeSoto Road residence, the report stated.
When Singles arrived at the home, he reported that Dressel claimed he had been sleeping and knew nothing about what reportedly took place.
"On the defendant's hands I observed dried blood," Singles wrote.
The victim told investigators that between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., he was held at the home against his will and that he believed Dressel was under the influence of alcohol and "an unknown over the counter stimulant."
He told Singles that Dressel became enraged and jumped on top of him, biting, hitting and scratching him. He then pulled out a sword and threatened the victim with it, when the victim tried to make a telephone call for help, the report stated.
The victim reported he was struck on the arms, chest and lower legs with the sword about 20 times. Singles observed scratches and "abrasions" on the victim.
The victim said he was then attacked with a knife, and after Dressel made some type of martial art-type maneuver, was hit in the forehead, causing a cut and "significant" blood loss.
The victim was not allowed to leave the house, under threat of further injury, the victim told police, and after time the victim reported he convinced Dressel to let him go to get medical attention.
Dressel reportedly agreed, but wanted the victim to tell the hospital he was attacked by two females.
The victim was then given a trash bag with the broken sword, the knife and other articles to dispose of, which were turned over to police and collected as evidence.
