VENUS — A 2-acre wildfire in the Venus area is threatening several structures, according to forestry officials.
As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, an official with the Florida Division of Forestry said that the fire was contained and that more information would released on Wednesday morning.
Jim Rath, a district manager with the FDF, said that helicopters, bulldozers and ground crew were heading toward that wildfire at 4:25 p.m., Tuesday. He did not yet know the specific buildings that were threatened and did not advise any evacuations.
A 350-acre controlled burn is also taking place at the Avon Park Air Force Range, which is leaving a smoky horizon stretching to Sebring.
