A Sebring man was arrested Friday night after he allegedly attempted to use a fraudulent license he purchased through a Web site to cash a check at the Amscot Financial at 1157 US Hwy 27 South.
Anthony A. Williams, 20, of 4415 Alcantarra Ave., allegedly tried to forge a signature on a check valued at $3,113 issued to a "Fred Clark" using a fake driver's license.
Williams allegedly told authorities with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office that Clark is a prisoner in the Hendry Correctional Institution. Williams also reportedly told authorities that his father is also a prisoner at the Hendry facility, and is friends with Clark.
Williams allegedly told authorities that Clark granted him permission through his father to cash the check under the false pretense. Williams also reportedly told authorities that after he received the check, he logged onto the Web site, www.newidcard.com and purchased a license with Clark's name.
Williams was charged with possession of a forged or stolen drivers license or identification, altering a public record or certificate and fraud.
All three charges are third degree felonies.
