Have What It Takes?

Published: January 11, 2008

Imagine this most improbable of situations: Just under half of the people you know of, in this country, don't really care for you, or they dislike you in varying degrees and intensities, including hatred.

About 10 percent of the rest of the people you know of think the sun rises and falls because of you, but most of them want something from you, which you probably can't give them, at which time they will fall into the remaining group that think you are "Okay," but they too want something from you.

You have just graduated from an unheard of college with only a 2.5 GPA. You are a single woman pregnant with sextuplets, and you already know they all will be born prematurely and with special needs for life, and all their needs are different.

You have been given the deed to an immense house that still has a mortgage attached to it and for which you must provide maintenance, upkeep and taxes, and then remodel it to suit you upcoming needs.

You are about to become wedded to a man who has his own special and costly needs, and has 2-year-old sextuplets of his own.

Some of your immediately family, and most of your new in-laws, are constantly squabbling and just as constantly insisting that you act as intermediary in all of their affairs, which are many, which will most assuredly land you in a "Damned if you do, and damned if you don't" position with all of them, and without an iota of thanks from any of them. And there are those who don't care one way or the other about you and will go around you at any cost to accomplish their goals, and then blame you for any of their failures in those efforts, most often from an "unofficial" position.

Got the picture? Good. Now raise your right hand on the U.S. Capital steps and take the oath of office of the President of the United States. What you've read above is a piece of cake compared to what will happen to your life after you take the oath.

To help soften that,"I'm glad someone else has the job" load, be sure to vote a well thought out vote every time you are given the chance.
