SEBRING — Is Carl Cool thinking of challenging Barbara Stewart for county commissioner in District 1?
He won't confirm the news tip, but asked three times on Thursday, he didn't deny it.
"There are lots of rumors going around regarding people running for offices at this time of year, and all of them are unconfirmed at this time."
But what about Cool?
"I've not only heard that I was running, I've heard rumors about other people who might be running, and they are all unconfirmed as far as I know," Cool said.
Both Stewart and Cool live in the Avon Park area. Will he seek her seat?
"In June, when there is a qualifying week for local candidates, then we'll find out for sure who is running for what office," Cool said.
Stewart, contacted Thursday afternoon, hadn't heard if Cool was thinking about her seat.
But observers have watched for three years as Stewart has become Cool's chief critic on the county commission.
"We just have a different way of looking at things," Stewart said. "I expect certain things from a professional staff. And that's what I ask for."
Commissioners run from one of five districts, but they are elected by a countywide vote. Incumbents Andrew Jackson and Guy Maxcy are also seeking re-election, but no opponents have filed yet. Cool has also not filed official papers with the supervisor of elections.
