I am a Democrat. I wish George W. Bush and his family a good life. As president however he is:
1. Incompetent
2. Arrogant
3. Has misled the government and the people of this country with errors and lies. If you believe that you, or your family, and our country are better off than we were seven years ago, I don't think you need read any further.
The Republican presidential candidates distance themselves from President Bush, yet they say they will continue the war, they will not raise taxes, and they will cut spending on important social programs.
The Republicans are saying that the war in Iraq is under control because of the surge, and we have only lost 21 military personnel in December 2007. They do not speak about the approaching 4,000 soldiers killed and the many thousands wounded over the past five years. I believe one soldier killed, along with the hundreds of billion dollars spent, is among the biggest mistake any U.S. government has made. Take a look at the situation in the Middle East right now; is there an improvement or effective change? This Republican administration will also turn over a trillion-dollar debt to the next administration.
The Democratic Congress and Senate, which was voted in a year ago, is being blamed because they did not fix the problems. The reality is that the Republican Party still has control along with President Bush, and nothing will really happen until there is a change in the next administration.
Voters, I hope you will evaluate each presidential candidate based on character, experience and commitment to turn around the direction that this government has put in place. The candidate should also discuss his or her plans to resolve the war, fix our economy and programs that affect every American. It will take several years to return the United States of America to the role of a world leader, and bring back meaning to the phrase "We the People."
