Have we lost perspective when we consider the issue of providing $75 per month to Highlands County military personnel on active duty in combat zones? From a moral prospective the idea has merit. When viewed from an ethical point of view it may point to greater problems relating to administration, bookkeeping and opportunity for fraud.
The idea itself recognizes our men and women in the enlisted ranks need financial help. If that is true, and I believe it is, where do we need to put the effort? Why not pressure our congressmen and senators to have a proper pay system for the troops? It is a federal army and not the Highlands County army.
If the concept of paying the troops a monthly stipend is merely an expiation for our failure and the sending of troops into combat based on the lies of our government, then $75 is not enough as 30 pieces of sliver was not.
