SEBRING – The Tanglewood Cancer Drive, in its ninth year, has collected $48,450 for the American Cancer Society.
The new total topped 2007 contributions by almost $10,000. All funds were raised and contributed by community residents.
Nearly a thousand Tanglewood residents gathered in the community's picnic area Tuesday afternoon to participate in the final event of the month-long drive.
The annual drive began with a small group of campers who raised $350 at a picnic in remembrance of a fallen friend. Since then, the community has raised more than $150,000 for cancer research.
It is estimated that more than 300 residents volunteered for four fundraising events and more were involved in events organized by more that 25 committees.
