SEBRING — Road improvements to U.S. 27, just north of the town line, will force drivers headed north from Lake June Road to first head south and make a U-turn.
Work is scheduled to begin next week and will create new turn lanes on the U.S. 27 median that will allow entry and exit from the recently constructed Lake Placid Church of Christ.
A new concrete barrier, or "dual directional" turn lanes, will allow north and southbound drivers on U.S. 27 at Lake June Road to make turns, but concrete barriers will prevent left turns from the large residential area served by Lake June Road, to north bound U.S. 27.
Intermittent closures for construction will occur only during daylight hours and there will be no full-lane closures, which might cause back-ups, said Lauren Hatchell, public information specialist with the Florida Department of Transportation.
The work will require drainage modifications in the grass median.
