NAFTA's Downsides

Published: February 18, 2008

In fairness to the Mexican working class, their borders are also open to foreign nationals from all over the world.

Greedy corporations worldwide are promoting "open borders" for the purpose of cheap labor and to also violate tariff laws where applied.

Example: The North American Free Trade Agreement "NAFTA." This trade agreement sharply lowered tariffs and investment barriers among the three countries: Mexico, Canada and the United States.

It has also violated the sovereignty of all three nations, creating a North American Union. NAFTA has brought new business and investment to Mexico, but it destroys Mexican industries who cannot compete with the goods coming from the United States and Canada. This application of unfair trade laws is happening in "all nations," putting the working class of all nations against each other for the sole purpose of profits for the companies involved.

Since World War II, Mexico has had poor economic growth. Mexico is a major oil producer but it still cannot pay her foreign debts. This debt has had an effect on its economy, keeping the population in poverty. The average income for a Mexican was less than $6,000 in the year 2002.

The Institutional Revolutionary Party has controlled Mexico since 1929 to 2000. When Vicente Fox gained control he sold out to multi-national corporations (NAFTA.) He allowed foreign investment at the expense of the Mexican work force and the environment. Mexico is a very toxic waste dump.

This is the reason that America is such a "magnet" for foreign national Mexicans, as well as foreign national workers from all over the world.
