SEBRING – A review of the past year, a look ahead at the year ahead and the presentation of awards were the order of business during the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet Friday night at the Restoration Center.
Megan Klootwyk was recognized as the Ambassador of the Year.
Kim Heintz was presented with the Director of the Year award.
Bob and Nadine Tedstone received the Volunteer of the Year award. This is the first time that a couple has been honored with the award.
Highlands Independent Bank was named the Business of the Year.
Norm Stephens, the outgoing chairman of the board, spoke and gave some highlights of the past year.
After commending the board of directors, Stephens said it is the first time in the 92-year history of the chamber that the membership topped 1,000.
Stephens said the chamber has organized two successful Heartland Triathlons. He noted that more than 750 participants are expected in this year's event.
He said the chamber opened the Business and Welcome Center and continues to support Junior Achievement and Leadership Highlands.
Susan Jones, who is the chair this year, spoke after Stephens.
"I have very big shoes to fill," Jones said. "If nothing else it will prove to be entertaining under my direction."
Jones, the branch manager of the south Sebring office of MIDFLORIDA Federal Credit Union, said she would like to continue the momentum created by Stephens and continue the success of events that draw people to the community.
