Bland, Spiegel Fall in Semis

LAKELAND - LAKELAND - State title hopefuls Shaanan Spiegel of Sebring and Avon Park junior James Bland were ousted from the winner's bracket with a pair of losses on Friday night during the evening session at the Class 1A state wrestling tournament at the Lakeland Center.
Spiegel and Wade Colston of Clay High School in Green Cove Springs battled to a 1-1 stalemate at the end of regulation in the 152-pound weight class. Colston, however, got the best of the Blue Streak senior with a takedown and a 3-1 win.
Bland, who was undefeated coming into his match against Jacksonville Bolles' Luke McGurrin, had trouble with an injured knee suffered earlier in the day and dropped a 9-4 decision.
The best finish either wrestler can hope for is the bronze medal. Both wrestlers compete in Saturday's wrestlebacks, which begin at noon.
