Respect Life Movement

I have received a letter from a woman I will call Ms. A.B. who is very angry with the Respect Life Movement, and with me in particular. My name has been associated with Respect Life in Highlands County and she "unloaded" on me. Unfortunately, she did not include a return address other than Sebring Fl. 33870. I have not been able to locate a more thorough address.

Ms. A.B. lists 12 complaints against the Respect Life Movement, ranging from: It is only men who are involved, we treat women as second class citizens - barefoot and pregnant, indifferent to the problems of unwanted pregnancies, hypocrisy and in favor of the death penalty. In my view, these complaints are not valid because there are agencies in Highlands County which devote themselves to helping women in crisis pregnancies.

Most troubling is her concern for unwanted babies who end up abused, in a life of misery, torture and death. She seems to justify abortion as a means to save babies from potential abuse and torture in the future. It is patently absurd to advocate destruction of life in the womb to prevent their potential destruction at a later date. There are many couples waiting years to adopt unwanted babies. All life is sacred and is a gift from God, and only God should determine when it ends.

The tone of her letter is so bitter and antagonistic it suggests a bad personal experience with an unwanted pregnancy. If anyone knows Ms. A.B. please ask her to write to me again so we can continue this dialogue. There is help available in Highlands County. Trained women, who are not judgmental, can advise, counsel and provide aide, both pre-natal and post-natal.

Ms. A.B., you have nothing to lose and you just might find peace and your own forgiveness.
