SEBRING — The father of Dorothy "Dolly" Trevelyan confirmed Wednesday that she's the Sebring resident who died Tuesday as a result of injuries she sustained during a Saturday night ATV accident.
Thornton Trevelyan, of 7203 Sparta Road, said that Dolly, 50, was involved in the accident at approximately 11 p.m., Saturday, while driving on Cherry Road near Sebring.
Dolly was transported to Tampa General Hospital after the accident. Thornton said that his daughter was taken off life-support at noon Tuesday.
Dolly worked as a registered hospice nurse.
Thornton said his family has received hundreds of phone calls and condolences about his daughter's death.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Dolly was reportedly riding the ATV with two other occupants, who friends say suffered minor injuries before being released from the hospital.
A spokeswoman for the FHP said that no official information about the accident could be released as of Wednesday since the trooper investigating the accident on Saturday would not be at work again until today.
The spokeswoman said that they have not received any information from Tampa General about the death and that they typically release press releases when they are informed of a fatality.
Thornton said his family and wife, Jacquie, have not received any information from law enforcement officials and that funeral arrangements will be made after his family has a meeting to discuss specifics.
An Amazing Mother
Dolly's friend, Karen Lanier, described Dolly as a terrific mother to her son Payne Vannice, 13, a student at Sebring Middle School.
"Dolly was an amazing mother," said Lanier. "She was involved in everything Payne did. She was very dedicated to him as a single mother."
Lanier said she went to school with Dolly, who graduated from Sebring High School in 1975. Lanier said that Dolly was a member of the school's stage band and swimming team.
"I'm a couple of years younger than her, but we had classes together," said Lanier. "She was very well known and very well loved by her classmates and the community."
Lanier said that Dolly lived in Highlands County for most of her life, leaving only to attend nursing school.
Lanier, who co-owns ABC House of Scrapbooking, in Sebring, said that Dolly had a number of hobbies.
"She loved scrapbooking. She loved organizing her memories of cruises and fishing trips with Payne," said Lanier. "She was a very adventurous person."
"(Dolly's death) is going to be very hard on everyone," said Lanier. "She's going to be missed."
