Team Winslow Wins Olympic Golf

SEBRING –– Taking advantage of ideal scoring conditions and a unique format, the talented duo of Marty Winslow and Dick Butler won the inaugural Olympic Golf Classic on Saturday at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.

The tournament, which benefits the Highlands County Children's Advocacy Center, attracted 128 golfers who played six holes of scramble, six holes of best ball and six holes of alternate shot.

Winslow and Butler had a net score of 65.3 to win the First Flight, while the team of George Banich and Paul McAllister placed second with a 66.1.

The duo of Ken MacGibbon and Marcel Cadieux came in third with a 66.2, while Joe Reiley and Ryan Magnuson finished fourth at 66.7.

Howard Umphress and Curt McCullough won the Second Flight with a net 62.2, while Bill Murray and Michele Liffick placed second at 62.6.

Jerry and Joan Denstorff came in third with a 64.7 and Walt Casper and Larry Staggs finished fourth at 65.7.

The Third Flight was won by P.T. Salinder and George Hensley with a 64.8, while Ron Wonderling and Bob Burke placed second with a 66.

Dennis Crews and Greg Kramer came in third with a 66.2 and Paul Herman and Lisa Osha finished fourth at 66.8.

The Fourth Flight was won by Al and Charlotte Wall with a 65.2, while John Hierholzer and Joe Craigo came in second at 68.

Ron and Ruth Hofbauer finished third with a 70.2 and Dennis and Bev Dunn came in fourth at 70.8.

The Fifth Flight was won by Chuck and Colleen Rafatti with a 66.5, while Jorge Gonzalez and Kim Schlosser placed second at 69.7.

Lloyd and Janice Burlew came in third with a 69.9 and Marlowe Lebarge and Bert Johanson finished fourth at 70.7.

Dick Butler won the closest-to-the-pin honors on hole No. 17, while Jerry Denstorff won on No. 9, Judy MacGibbon won on No. 11, Ron Hoffman won on No. 4 and Michelle Liffick won longest drive on hole No. 10.

The tournament was the idea of Olympic Restaurant owner Jimmy Tskalos.

"We've had our share of good fortune as business owners in the community," said Tskalos. "We just want to give something back to show our appreciation."
