LAKE PLACID — The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of Philemon "Bobby" White, 57, of Lake Placid, who was found dead Sunday in Lake Huntley.
Lt. Tim Lethbridge said Tuesday that the sheriff's office was awaiting autopsy results to determine White's cause of death.
Lethbridge said that authorities responded to a phone call at approximately 5:50 p.m., Sunday, from a civilian reporting that there was an empty truck and trailer sitting off a boat ramp, near Lake Huntley.
Lethbridge said that White's boat was found sitting unoccupied in the lake, about 75 feet from the boat trailer.
When authorities arrived to the scene, they began searching the area for White with several civilians, when someone spotted his body in the lake.
Emergency Medical Service professionals and deputies attempted to perform life-saving techniques on White, but were unsuccessful.
Lethbridge said that it was still unclear whether White was loading his boat onto his truck or unloading it into the lake, and whether White's death may have been accidental.
A representative from W&W Lumber of Lake Placid said that White was a 30-year employee for the company, and that White's family members were in the process of making funeral arraignments.
