If Nothing Else, Presidential Election Is Filled With Drama

This year's historic presidential election just couldn't get any more interesting. The Republicans have basically sewn up a nominee, with Sen. John McCain holding an almost insurmountable lead. The Democrats, on the other hand, are duking it out and the fight is close.

McCain is a good man and fine American. He will be an outstanding competitor against any Democrat chosen. In fact, with McCain's ability to attract independent voters, he might be the only possible candidate to win over senators Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the general election.

Clinton must be frustrated that she can't emerge as the favorite after all these months on the campaign trail. Her nomination seemed like a lock just a few months ago. Obama clearly has surprised everyone, and his message is inspiring people across party lines and generations. It's exciting to watch.

The history being made is not lost on anyone. Either a woman or an African-American man will be their party's nominee for president. It seems like only a few years ago when Vice President Walter Mondale picked Geraldine Ferraro to be the first woman vice presidential candidate in their failed bid against Ronald Reagan.

One intriguing possibility would be for McCain to choose Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice as a running mate. Just imagine what would happen to the race if that happened. Of course, Rice has made no mention of such a possibility, nor has McCain said anything about it. But it's fun to consider.

How long can Hillary and Barrack slug it out?

Who will John choose?

Sounds like a soap opera, but it's real and it's playing out on a national stage for everyone to see. If you love politics – or not – it should be good drama.
