LAKE PLACID – With one out and trailing by two runs in the bottom half of the last inning, the next six batters for the Seminole Tire team scored three runs to squeeze out an 8-7 victory over Lake Placid Marine in LP Senior Softball league play on Monday at the Lake June Ball fields.
Mike Jurmu led the team at the plate, going 4 for 4, followed by Jim Radcliff, Gary Steeves and George Lavoie with three hits each for the winners. Pitcher George Quay was the only player for the Lake Placid Marine team with three hits and Cal Bready, Jeff Stanley, Larry Lane, Dave Holloway, and Darrel Richards each went 2 for 4 in the losing effort.
The game on the other field also went down to the final out.
The Schooni's Family Restaurant team once again rallied in the top half of the last inning, scoring four runs to claim an 14-13 lead over league-leading Central Security.
Don Cunningham and Paul Stephenson were each 3 for 4 and manager Jim Guild had a triple and a three-run home run for the victors. The Central Security team offense was once again led by Dana Hurlbut, who was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, and John Miller, Max Hehn, and Tom Walsh with three hits each.
The Central Security team loss and Schooni's win now moved them into a three way tie for the league lead with the idle Michelle Yates Insurance team with records of 4-3.
After completion of today's games (around 11:30 a.m.) the league will celebrate the 90th birthday of Al Chipps, the oldest player in the history of the league and likely the oldest player in the history of other leagues in the county. League play continues through the end of March.
