SEBRING – West Coast Furniture Gallery owner Millie Havlock got into consignments last year and is glad she did.
"It really has helped us tremendously," Havlock said. "It has brought us through the summer."
"We have had wonderful people and the quality has been marvelous."
Due to an economy that Havlock described as "lousy'' the furniture business has been tough.
West Coast, located at 5535 U.S. 27 S., began handling consignments in May of last year. More than 100 items have been sold since then, Havlock said.
A customer who has a piece of furniture can call the Sebring store. West Coast will pick it up and display it. If the item is sold, there is a 50/50 split between the customer and the store.
The store has sofas, beds, end tables, recliners dining room sets and lamps.
A 9-foot tall oak entertainment center and a faux stone circular headboard that is part of a six-piece bedroom set are some of the more unusual pieces.
West Coast also began renting Budget trucks in 2007. They come in three sizes - 10, 16 and 24 feet.
The trucks can be reserved online and picked up from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They can be dropped off at any time.
Car carriers and dollies are also available to rent.
