SEBRING - Barbara Stewart, chairwoman of the Highlands County Board of Commissioners, made assignments for the five commissioners to serve as either a voting member or a liaison to 30 boards and commissions.
Stewart named herself to represent the county commission as a voting member on the Tourist Development Council, the Long Range Transportation Committee, the Public Safety Coordinating Committee, the Transportation Disadvantaged Board, and the Canvassing Board, which works with the supervisor of elections office.
She also will be the county commission's liaison to the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Long Range Transportation Committee.
First-term Commissioner Jeff Carlson was named as a voting member of the Central Florida Regional Planning Council, the Heartland Library Cooperative and Florida's Heartland Rural Economic Development Initiative.
He also will be the county's liaison to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the Library Advisory Board, and serve as District 3 Commissioner to the Sun 'n Lake of Sebring Improvement District.
Commissioner Guy Maxcy will represent the commissioners as liaison to the Sebring Airport Authority, the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, and the Highlands County Historic Preservation Commission, and as a voting member of the Workforce Investment Board.
Commissioner Edgar Stokes will represent the commissioners on the Ten-County Coalition for Lake Okeechobee Protection, serve as liaison to the Lake Istokpoga Management Committee, the South Florida Water Management District, and the Industrial Development Authority, and as a voting member on the county's Insurance Committee.
Commissioner Don Bates was given assignments as liaison to the county Children's Services Council, the Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Council, the county's Soil and Water Conservation District, Highlands County Hospital Board, the Lake Denton Citizens Advisory Committee, and the Impact Fee Review Committee.
Stewart named Bates, Stokes and Maxcy to serve as voting members on the county Value Adjustment Board, which meets in September or October and rules on property owners' appeals of their taxable value.
