LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Town Council voted Monday to have its attorney, Bert Harris, attend a meeting to discuss road design/access for a RaceWay store at the corner of U.S. 27 and South Lakeview Road.
A site plan review has been postponed until Janaury.
A RaceTrac store had been planned for that site. However, a change to RaceWay, which is a smaller version of the RaceTrac store, is being proposed, according to information provided to the council.
"In light of the current economic environment where many competitors have ceased expansion or are closing stores, the decision was made to move forward with a store which they feel can satisfy the needs of the community and be an active participant in the local economy," according to a letter from the applicant.
The letter goes on to say "the time it has taken to get through the development process has caused RaceTrac substantial cost ... and they can no longer appropriate the money it costs to build the larger facility."
The meeting will involve Highlands County Engineer Ramon Gavarrete, Sue BuChans, the town planner, and local Florida Department of Transportation staff.
