In an effort to provide work for the legal citizens of Highlands County and prevent our tax dollars from being sent to a foreign county by illegal aliens, I have proposed the following to the county commission:
The county shall register and participate in the IMAGE (ICE mutual agreement between government and employers) program.
The county shall include in all contract documents and bid requirements that any employer, company, contractor or subcontractor that wishes to enter into an agreement to do business with Highlands County register and participate in the IMAGE program.
The county shall further require that each employer, contractor, subcontractor or company shall provide documentation that the IMAGE requirement has been met, and such documentation shall be submitted with the bid document during the letting process.
The IMAGE program requires enrollment in E-Verify, which is a free system run jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration that checks the eligibility status to work in the United States of newly hired employees. It requires enrollment in the Social Security Number Verification system, requires an ICE conducted audit of I-9 forms of employees hired during the last three years and other requirements, (if this proposal is passed your tax dollars won't be used to pay illegal aliens.)
This issue will come before the county commission as a workshop item if you call and e-mail all the commissioners to let them know that you want them to use the IMAGE program to protect your tax dollars, from deportation. It's up to you.

Remember, we will be building a $13 million sheriff's office soon and I for one would like to see the work and money go to the legal citizens of Highlands County, not to illegal aliens to be sent out of the country.
