SEBRING - Jake Trussell scored 16 points and center Jewell Campbell had 10 rebounds to lift Sebring to a 69-27 victory over Hardee in Class 4A-District 10 match-up on Tuesday.
Despite the outcome, Sebring head coach Princeton Harris wasn't pleased with his team at halftime.
"We missed 20 layups in the first half, so to be honest, I wasn't pleased at all," Harris said. "You always want wins, especially a district win, but you can't play the way we did and compete for a district championship.
"The boys will be doing a lot of layup drills and running at practice to cure their shooting woes."
Chris Grubb and Devin Clarke added 12 points.
The Streaks are back in action tonight when they travel to face Lake Wales. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER: Lake Placid 3, Frostproof 1
FROSTPROOF - Yudi Terrones scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Lake Placid stayed undefeated with a 3-1 win over Frostproof in a Class 3A-District 10 showdown at Bulldog Stadium on Tuesday.
With the two goals, Terrones lifts her mark to 19 goals on the season.
"This was just a fun game," LP head coach John Merlo said. "Both teams were craving a win and we fought it out on the field. The girls played great tonight and we were able to hit Yudi with some great passes and she was able to convert.
"These games are the reason I love to coach."
After a scoreless first half, Terrones scored the first points of the game at 40-minute mark, but 10 minutes later Frostproof's Leslie Alverado tied the game on a shot that deflected off goalie Sarah Thompson's hands and into the net.
With 6:16 left on the clock, senior Julie Shrewsberry hit Terrones with a pretty pass in front of the net for an easy goal to give Lake Placid a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The win improves Lake Placid's record to 7-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the district.
Erica Resendiz added an insurance goal late in the game for her 10th goal of the season.
The Green Dragons are back on the field Friday when they host LaBelle in a non-district match. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER: Lake Placid 1, Frostproof 1
FROSTPROOF - Lake Placid rebounded from poor play in the first half to earn a 1-1 tie in a Class 3A-District 10 match at Bulldog Stadium on Tuesday.
Vicente Ramos scored with 30 minutes left on a long run off the left wing, beating two defenders on the dribble to tie the score for Lake Placid.
"We played much better in that second half and kept the ball on their side of the field for most of the half," said LP head coach Josh Virkler.
The Green Dragons take the holidays off and will back in action on Jan. 5, when they host Clewiston.
GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: Sebring Tops DeSoto, Hardee
Michelle Bash cleared a team-high 255 pounds in the 169-pound class and Megan Wolfe had 235 pounds at 154 in leading Sebring to a tri-meet win over DeSoto and Hardee.
The Streaks scored 62 points with the 'Cats finishing with 15 points and the Bulldogs adding three.
"Just on sheer numbers, we're going to be a strong team to beat at nearly every meet we're in," Sebring coach Steve Berry said. "We're really deep and now we just have one meet left and then come back strong after the holidays."
Sebring nearly swept every weight class, but Toni-Ann Dallas, who lifts at 183 pounds, was in Jamaica on vacation and it turned out to be the only weight class the Streaks would lose.
The Streaks are back in the gym today when they travel for the Charlotte Invitational.
