AVON PARK - An Avon Park man remained in jail Wednesday in lieu of a $7,500 bond following his Monday arrest on drug charges.

Lorisma William Desilus, 19, of 454 W. Sixth St., Avon Park, was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a worship or business center, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

Sheriff's deputies reportedly saw Desilus in the area of Hal McRae Boulevard and DeLaney Avenue in Avon Park - a documented high rime area - at 10:30 p.m., Monday. When he spotted the authorities, the subject got to his feet and starting walking away at a fast pace, according to the arrest report.

Desilus reportedly removed a "large baggie" from his shorts pocket and threw it into an alley way. Authorities immediately retrieved it and found 14 green baggies, with each containing marijuana. The approximate weight for all of it was 18.5 grams, the report stated.

Another torn piece of white paper was allegedly found in Desilus' left, front shorts pocket that contained approximately 2.8 grams of loose marijuana. A sample of it and the cannabis from one of the green baggies were individually field tested and both yielded positive results for such.

The baggies were individually packaged for sale, with the intention to sell within 1,000 feet of New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, located in the 800 block of South DeLaney Avenue.
Highlands County Sheriff's Office Deputy Michael Ahrens made the arrest.
