Officer Andrew Markham was on his way home at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 7) evening, and came upon my vehicle on the side of the road on Lake Mirror Drive. I had run over pieces of broken concrete block, a piece of which put a hole in the side wall of my tire.
Officer Markham immediately took over trying to jack the vehicle, and prepared to remove the tire. At this time, the jack that was placed in the sand rolled over dropping the vehicle. I had my arm in on the tire at this time and I cut it. Officer Markham, seeing that we could not get the vehicle up with what we had to work with, said to me and my wife that he would go home and get a floor jack that he had, and then would return.
He returned in his private truck, along with his wife who brought along some first aid materials to help me, and then proceeded to raise the vehicle and complete the change-out. Then, after the emergency flashers were on for all this time, the battery was down and again Officer Markham had the cables to jump start the vehicle.
My wife and I want you to know the outstanding man that is with the Sebring Police Department that you have in Officer Markham. I have seen other officers from time to time assisting others; however Officer Markham went completely out of his way to assist us. If possible we would appreciate it if he can be recognized for his character and a letter placed in his file.
