Women Arrested For Cocaine Possession Following Traffic Stop
AVON PARK - Paula Nieblas, 52, of 3604 Aston Martin Drive, Sebring, and Karelyn Powery, 37, of 1855 N. Oliva Drive, Avon Park, were both arrested Saturday and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, Nieblas was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs, first offense.
Officers with the Avon Park Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Chevy Sedan, driven by Nieblas, after observing it going 59 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, according to the arrest report.
Nieblas was believed to be intoxicated, as a strong odor of alcohol was reportedly detected on her breath. She then failed field sobriety exercises, the report stated.
The passenger, Powery, was also said to be intoxicated. Following a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly found a "brittle, white substance" suspected of being crack cocaine. It was wrapped in a napkin in the center console. The substance reportedly yielded positive results for the reaction of cocaine after being field tested.
