I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Highlands County Commissioner Don Bates for his active participation in the Placid Lakes Homeowners Association meetings. It is a pleasure to see an elected official exemplify true representative behaviors.

Commissioner Bates has attended meetings, updated those in attendance regarding current county activities and plans, noted concerns expressed by his constituents, and then personally followed up. I was amazed when Commissioner Bates took the time to telephone me with possible solutions to a problem I mentioned regarding a neighborhood issue.

He has driven the neighborhoods with other members noting their concerns about a canal dam negatively impacting those living adjacent to this canal. Mr. Bates researched issues and offered his findings to those concerned.

This type of representation is what exemplifies an outstanding commissioner and elected official. Thank you Commissioner Bates for reassuring this community of your interest and efforts to make our voices heard. How great it would be if all our government officials exemplified similar leadership.
