AVON PARK - The experience of the Highlands County Concert Band joins forces with the enthusiasm of Sebring High School's top band students for a musical wonderland of holiday sounds at 7:30 p.m., Friday at the South Florida Community College Auditorium.
Admission for adults is a $6 donation and for students a $3 donation.
The Brass Menagerie will perform Christmas music prior to the concert.
In its 32nd year, the Highlands County Concert Band features 70 musicians.
Concert Band Director Dick Anderson said, along with about 20 musicians from the high school, they will perform a variety of holiday songs including one that's always a favorite - "Sleigh Ride."
Other tunes the band will perform include: "It's the Most Wonderful time of the Year" and "Calypso Christmas."
Anderson, who plays lead trumpet with the Skylarks dance band, conducts the Concert Band and will also perform with the brass group prior to the show.
Both the high school students and concert band members benefit from practicing and playing together, Anderson believes.
"Maybe it works both ways -we're getting our enthusiasm from them and maybe they are picking up some good notes from us," he said.
The concert band has a perpetual scholarship fund, which awards scholarships for music students to study privately or attend music camps.
