SEBRING - Barbara Stewart, who recently began her second four-year term as a county commissioner and was elected chairman of the commission, will be the guest speaker at today's meeting of the Highlands County Homeowners Association.
Also speaking will be Gabriel Read, a retired educator and civic activist.
Stewart will give her views on current county operations and the direction she expects county government to take over the next year.
Read will discuss a resolution urging the Florida legislature to deal with the issue of school truancy.
The homeowners association meeting will run from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Sebring Country Estates Club House, on Grand Prix Drive, just west of US 27.
Free coffee, tea and doughnuts are offered before the monthly meeting, which is open to the public.
In addition to the guest speaker, the meeting will feature reports on community business ranging from the school board and sheriff's office to code enforcement, transportation, recreation and parks, and veterans services.
